Description
We offer 3 bird boxes:
- Blue Tit Box: with a 25 mm entry hole, this box is best suited for smaller birds, such as blue tit, coal tit and marsh tit.
- Sparrow Box: with a 32 mm entry hole, this box is suitable for slightly larger garden birds like great tit, tree sparrow, nuthatch and lesser spotted woodpecker.
- Robin Box: an open-fronted nest box, perfect for Robins, Wrens, Pied Wagtails and Spotted Flycatchers
Positioning your bird box:
The best position will depends on the species the box is intended for: Boxes for tits, sparrows and starlings should be fixed two to four metres up a tree or a wall.
Face the box between north and east (avoiding strong sunlight and the wettest winds) unless there are trees or buildings shading the box during the day. There should be a clear flight path to the nest, with no obstructions directly in front of the entrance. Tilt the box forward slightly so that any driving rain will hit the roof and bounce clear.
House sparrows and starling boxes should be placed high up under the eaves. Keep these away from areas where House Martins normally nest.
Open-fronted boxes for robins and wrens should be low down, below 2m, hidden in vegetation.
